Biography:
Waleed R. Qaisi, born in Baghdad in 1963, is a ceramic sculptor and painter known for his expressive abstraction in ceramics, painting, and 3D objects. A graduate of the Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts (1985), his work explores themes of destruction and reconstruction, influenced by his experiences during the Iraq-Iran War and Gulf War. He has exhibited solo and in group shows globally, participated in international biennales, and completed artist residencies in Denmark, Japan, Italy, Spain, Morocco, and Hungary. His works are featured in museum and private collections worldwide.
Artist Statement:
"Our history consists of fleeting moments, shaped by contradictions that drive constant social and economic change. These shifts inspire a creative process aimed at uncovering hidden meanings in daily interactions. My work explores two central questions: what does art want from us, and what do we want from it? Art, for me, is an honest expression of conscious and unconscious feelings, free of storytelling or proof. Like reshaping material, my process transforms thoughts and surroundings into visible relationships through poetic exploration."
