Hani Alqam, born in Amman in 1977, holds a diploma from the Institute of Fine Arts in Amman and has studied painting and printmaking at Darat al-Funun and the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts. He has held five solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows across Europe, the U.K., the U.S., Ireland, Pakistan, and Jordan. His work explores society and the complexities of the human psyche, often capturing the charm and chaos of Amman’s old cafés and
neighbourhoods. Alqam lives and works in Amman.
Artist Statement:
"In my work, thick paint and layered brushstrokes embody a compilation of thoughts and desires unraveled with intensity, leading me to the heart of the subject. For me, a painting reaches completion when it stirs the senses at a profound level. I embrace this thickness as a tangible connection to society, represented through bold yet fragile figures that intrigue the mind. Though intricate and refined on canvas, these figures carry a sense of chaos and familiarity, inviting each viewer to find a personal connection within them."
