Lot 1
Mudball. Edition 8/24
Lot Details

Augustas Serapinas (b. 1990 in Vilnius, Lithuania) lives and works in Vilnius.

This edition is a continuation of my work Mudmen, which you can see in the underground space at Forof gallery. Originally I was developing Mudmen for the second Riga biennial edition. The plan was to collect real snowmen during winter, made by the locals of the city. Unusually, that winter was warm and the snow never came. I had to change the project due to climate change. The Snowmen became Mudmen. This artwork (as usually are snowmen) was made together with local kids using mud and straw instead of the regular material - snow. I wouldn’t have made this work if it weren’t for these special circumstances - I can’t recall anything similar happening before. Therefore, this experience was commemorating a global shift towards a new ‘usual’. The current Mudballs edition descends from the same situation, which was originally conceived for Forof. My question is - is it a future version of a snowball? I hope not. For now it is a reminiscence of the current. Remember - our future is decided by us. – Augustas Serapinas
